How I See This Passage

How I See This Passage

Heb 13:5-6

5 Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,” 6 we can boldly quote,

God is there, ready to help;
I’m fearless no matter what.
Who or what can get to me?

Courage

Storm brewing

Courage is not the absence of fear. Rather it is staring at it…knees shaking… eyes watering and nearly crying… lips quivering… heart pounding… and then in that one moment, digging your heels down deep into the soil … squaring your shoulders back and head forward…and with one thrust from a made up mind you realize … you were made for this moment. The Almighty has designed it and He has called your number out. He has prepared you and trained to conquer. And so with knees shaking… eyes watering and nearly crying… lips quivering and heart pounding…you move forward into the eye of the storm. Armed with Faith, you press on believing that though you may not come out of this whole mess the way you envisioned, you know in your heart that after the battle, you will break out victorious and shaped just like the master had planned.

Perhaps some will take pity. Others will question you faith; debate its veracity and dismiss the same as foolishness or just plain crazy. Many offer a shoulder to cry on and an encouraging word. And though you resist and decline the offer, in your heart you slump in the comfort of their emotional arms. You are wounded and hurt. You cry out in despair after looking at the spoils that are left from your battle yet down in your heart of hearts you rest in the knowledge that you came out of the war exactly in the way the Almighty planned it. And so you rest awhile. You attend to your wounds. The man inside you says” enough”! But there’s a fire inside you that says, “Let’s do this again”! You yearn to stare at fear again. Your heart desires to feel your knees shaking… eyes watering and nearly crying… lips quivering… heart pounding… and then the battle cry! The only thing that stands between you and your victory is your faith…no not even your enemy. He is but a mere tool in this whole war. You understand that the battle for life is not complicated by a dangerous enemy but rather a weak faith.

And so you rise again. You put on your battered armor one a piece at a time. You look to your left and then to your right. You see you’re not alone after all. Other soldiers beside you are ready to go. They have the same fire in your eyes. Their knees shaking… eyes watering and nearly crying… lips quivering… heart pounding… and then in that one moment, just like you, you dig your heels down deep into the soil … squaring your shoulders back and head forward…and with one thrust from a made up mind you realize … you were made for this moment.

Injured…hurt…and in pain…yet just the same – Victorious!

Courage… you were born for this!

Such is life…

God and Other Unimportant Things

Image

A writer once said, “You eventually become what you worship…”.  The book of Proverbs says it in a similar thought: “A man becomes what’s in his heart” Whereas Luke says that your heart always follows what you treasure”. Elections, land reform, legislation, like the RH Bill, the Olympics, movies, movie stars, the economy  and the like seem to have taken the forefront of most conversations as of late.  It almost seems that these topics flow out of each on-going conversation throughout society.  In almost epidemic-like proportions, people have become obsessed with these issues.  And where is God in all of this?  He was shoved in the back burner somewhere along with the other unimportant nuisance topics that we want to evade and escape.

Who wants to talk about God anyway?  There are far too many needs, priorities, and topics that seem more pertinent and practical than He.   That is… Until disaster strikes!  In the wake of last week’s torrential rains that resulted in almost Noahic proportions turning most of the country into a kingdom that Neptune himself would love to rule; and the Colorado Movie Theater massacre that left men, women and children slaughtered by a man feigning insanity (when he doesn’t seem to be so)- “God Talk” has emerged from the back room and has been thrust into the forefront and front-lines! In the midst of all the tragedy, we find ourselves at a loss and desperately seeking for answers that Philosophy and Scientology claimed we already had inside our heart of hearts-only to find that for every answer we discover, a hundred questions arise from it just the same! How exasperating and disillusioning it all is! In the words of Solomon the King…”I have searched the world above and below and found it all to be vanity and endless banter!”

In all of man’s efforts to steer away from God, he finds himself in the very path TO GOD. As man refuses to consider God, he prompts nature to cry out and catch his attention. The good book said beautifully when it said, “when people refuse to recognize His name, the rocks and stones will cry out (paraphrased) and when they do… they catch man’s attention. When all those tragedies struck, all the talk about elections, land reform, legislation, like the RH Bill, the Olympics, movies, movie stars, the economy and the like all took a back seat in an instant. For some reason, those things that enslaved our attention seemed so minute, finite and insignificant. When nature, (be it human or ecology) shouts, it usually commands that kinds of reaction. And in that same instant, we find ourselves looking UP and asking the same God we discarded for answers and more so-comfort.So where does God fit into your conversation and more so, your daily life? Is He still in the back room with all the “unimportant things”? Allow Him to permeate your today…everyday! Think about it.
